Simon Mensing is backing Accies' Captain Marvel to be a relegation dogfight superhero – and lead his side to a three-game unbeaten run. Billy Reid's battlers have been handed a massive boost with the news that fit-again skipper Alex Neil is set to face Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday. The midfield dynamo has been crocked for a month and Mensing admits Accies have badly missed Neil's ability to keep hold of the ball in the boiler room.

There is a real belief we have the quality to consolidate our place in the SPL. The fact that we are some people’s favourites to go down is something we have used as a positive.   -Simon Mensing

THERE was relief all round New Douglas Park just before 5pm on Saturday afternoon. Relief that referee Charlie Richmond had blown the final whistle to end another disappointing Lanarkshire derby – the second in the space of seven days. And relief from a players' point of view that they can now finally put their feet up and enjoy a well earned rest having endured a tough schedule of three games in seven days in heavy underfoot conditions.

Unlucky Marc Fitzpatrick is coming to terms with yet another injury that will rule him out for the majority of the season. Having already missed most of the current campaign following an operation, the 23-year-old began to work his way back into the side and made his return to the starting eleven against Aberdeen a few weeks ago, turning in an excellent performance. I have been told I’ll miss between five and six weeks because of the injury   -Marc Fitzpatrick

Motherwell followed up their scrappy 1-0 win over Accies the previous weekend with another point in their quest to secure a top-six place but Brown was unimpressed with their display. On-loan Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy played a crucial role in securing Motherwell's sixth clean sheet in seven SPL games under Brown with a succession of saves, mainly from Simon Mensing, early in the second half. But Well could have snatched all three points when John Sutton blazed over after beating the offside trap mid

Hamilton Accies manager Billy Reid was encouraged at his side's drive in their 0-0 draw with Motherwell, despite failing to find the net. "0-0 draws are never great affairs," said Reid. "Fans come to see goals and, unfortunately, we didn't score a goal. "We started really well with McLaughlin heading off the crossbar then we took our foot off the gas. "We were slightly the better side and might have nicked the game, but I don't have too many complaints."
